Our school colors are blue and gold.
2. What is the LMS mascot? Our mascot is the lion.
3. Who goes to Lansdowne Middle School?
Students from Baltimore Highlands Elementary, Riverview Elementary, and Lansdowne Elementary come here.
4. Is there recess?
You might be allowed outside for part of your lunch time if you eat promptly.
5. What's for lunch?
It will vary each day but, you will have several hot and cold choices each day. Our cafeteria workers are great!
6. When does school begin and end?
Students may enter the building at the main entrance by the flagpole beginning at 7:57 am. If they are having breakfast, they enter through the Golden Lion Cafe entrance at the other end of the building, beginning at 7:45 am. We begin dismissing at 2:37 pm.
7. How long are classes?
Most classes are 50 minutes long. Some math and reading programs have 100 minute classes.
8. How many classes per day will I have?
Depending on your classes, you'll have 5-7 classes each day.
9. Will I have the same schedule every day?
We use an Odd Date/Even Date system so that every other day is different for most students.
10. What's an interdisciplinary team?
A team is a group of teachers and the group of students who work together in classes for the year. Most of our teams are named for animals (ex., Wolves, Tigers, Bears). Because they study many subjects and the teachers work to tie it all together (like writing poems about math problems or science investigations) the teams are interdisciplinary (between or across subjects).
11. Is the school safe?
We operate by a Code of Conduct which says we are all responsible, respectful, prepared, and SAFE. Sometimes a student might lose control and forget the code. Of course, when that happens, there are consequences for violating the Code of Conduct. (There are also rewards for those who follow it! Those students tend to be the successful ones.)
12. What are M. R. Bucks?
M. R. Bucks are awarded each quarter to those who follow the Code of Conduct and are having success with their grades and attendance - you get 1,000 for everyday you're here. More may be given based on your report card grades. Still more can be earned for special activities. If you get ONE MILLION of them, Mr. Martin Resnick will pay your way to HersheyPark in Pennsylvania at the end of the year! It's easy to get invited if you are present and working. We usually send more than half of the school!
13. Who is Mr. Resnick?
We call him "Uncle Marty". The students from Riverview Elementary know that he takes successful students to see the Orioles play. He owns several catering halls around Baltimore where someone you know may have had a fancy party to celebrate a special event. He expects his workers to be present, on time, and working to succeed, just like our expectations for our students. Uncle Marty wants to encourage successful students because they make better citizens and workers. Also, they are happier people. Each marking period, we send those students to have lunch under the chandeliers at Martin's West by his invitation and the most successful are treated to a day at HersheyPark at the end of the year!
14. Why do I need a passport? Where are we going?
The LMS Passport is your passport to success. It is your hall pass. It is where you will record homework assignments and project dates. Your family can use it to ask the teacher a question and receive an answer in writing. The Passport is full of interesting dates and facts. It has a world map and other references to help you study. We are going to succeed!
